Graezzit

Traits:

Hell-bound: Graezzit's power rivals or surpasses a fair number of demigods on his home demesne in the lower planes, but a good portion of that power is tied there - when he is summoned, only a portion of his metaphysical mass is transferred to the material plane, and wrapped in a manifested body. If his manifested body is killed, destroyed, or banished, this partition of himself is shunted back to the main body, but he is not overtly diminished in any way. The sole exception to this is if he is brought through a gateway directly into the mortal plane - a very bad idea reserved for insane or suicidal mages, and such an action is likely to invite reaction from the higher planes. If he is brought to the mortal plane in this fashion, he also faces a form of mortality, as whatever portion of his metaphysical mass is destroyed is lost for good.

Planar Instability: Spells intended to banish fiends or cut the metaphysical cord holding a summon in place are effective against Graezzit, being that he is, in fact, a fiend. However, unless they are infused with holy magic, his hexfire is capable of burning up banishing spells like many other magics, assuming he sees them coming and is able to react to them.

Fire-Aligned: Graezzit suffers no damage or discomfort from any source of heat, and in fact finds high temperatures comfortable to reside in. Conversely, however, he suffers great discomfort from being wet, and steams constantly if exposed to water in high quantities such as a lake or rainfall. Snowy or frozen environments are particularly difficult for him, and the colder his surroundings get, the more his fire magic is dampened.

Soul Archive: Being a daemon of fairly moderate success, Graezzit has bargained for many souls and other valuable repositories of information in his long lifetime. Once a soul is claimed by him, he gains access to the full breadth of knowledge they possessed in life. This is not a constant effect, but rather more like having a vast, well indexed library he can access and process at will. The mast majority of mortals he has made deals with were mages of some sort, to the primarily knowledge he has access to is magical in nature. He can act as a teacher to nearly any class of magic one is willing to pay him to tutor in, and can likely provide any similarly related information, or at the very least, tell you where to find it, if he isn't able to gather the arcane knowledge himself from his soul archive. Nothing is free, of course.

Abilities:

Fire Magic: Graezzit is fairly skilled with magics that involved the manipulation or creation of heat and fire. This is a natural aptitude due to his daemonic attunement to fire, more similar to sorcery than a learned art. However, he does understand the arcane principles behind fire magic, and is capable of teaching a student about the art. For the right price. His fire magic is not dependent on his environment to work, but it can be weakened or strengthened depending on local conditions such as weather and season. i.e. It is harder for him to throw fireballs in a snowstorm than on a nice summer afternoon.

Hexfire: Hexfire is the symbol of Graezzit's station as a fire daemon. It is only usable by him, and individuals he grants the use of it to via a bargain. Hexfire manifests as a bright green flame, and behaves similarly to normal flame, except it consumes magic rather than physical objects. Spells and magic effects - even magical fire - that enter a mass of hexfire are burned away, and it sets standard wards (including fire wards) aflame as if they were physical objects. In this fashion, hexfire is similar to an antimagic effect.

The fire is still hot, spreads at a speed comparable to normal fire, and will cause pain and discomfort if someone is aflame with it, but it will not cause any permanent damage to physical objects. A person wreathed in hexfire is incapable of casting spells or using magic, but it does not destroy their ability to use magic in any way. It can be extinguished or warded with holy magic or spells that protect against daemonic magic, and a sufficient quantity of water will also snuff it out, but if the water is magically controlled via some form of aquamancy, it can disrupt whatever forces are moving the water around.

Magically infused objects can be rendered mundane with the fire, but only if they are left unattended and aflame for an extended period of time - the flames take longer to destroy magics bound to an object than those flying through the air or wrapped around a person. While the object is aflame with hexfire, though, it cannot manifest any magic, similarly to a person.

Creatures whose existence or presence on the material plane depends on magic, such as golems, can find hexfire intensely painful, as it burns away the essence of what makes them exist as more than the materials they are made of. Hexfire cannot affect summoning spells, including his own, and serves no use as a method of banishing.

Shapeshifting: Graezzit is capable of shapeshifting, and take take nearly any form in a variety of sizes, but he tends towards vanity - he rarely performs shapeshifting unless compelled or convinced to do so, and even when he does, he is loathe to conceal his nature, often keeping the same markings and horns, even if he becomes a something that should not have them, such as a ferret or hound. The only shapechange he is acceptably reasonable towards discussing is simply assuming the form of a small imp that appears otherwise identical to his natural form, maybe with added wings.

Contracts: As a fiend of significant scope and power, Graezzit is capable of forming a contract with another being. The traditional format of a contract is written, and signed by the subject in question, but any formal method of agreement, including such things as a verbal arrangement sealed with a handshake, constitutes a binding contract with Graezzit. Graezzit and the signatory of such an agreement are thereafter linked in a metaphysical level for the duration of the contract (usually, this is permanent or until their death). Neither the daemon, signatory, nor any form of magic short of direct divine intervention is capable of breaching this bond, though it is possible to struggle or hide from Graezzit.

It is through this established pact-bond that Graezzit is able to effect the terms of his agreement with the mortal. Classically, this means that he claims their soul when they die, but he can claim other things, esoteric or not, if they are agreed on as part of a contract, such as voice, talent with music, memories, free will, and body parts. Graezzit cannot claim more than his pact-bound counterpart has agreed to give him, and is obligated to provide them whatever service they agreed to receive from him. Once he has claimed a something from a person, it can never be restored to them by any means other than performing another trade with Graezzit. A contract cannot be formed for goods, knowledge, or services either participating party cannot provide. Such an attempt to enact a contractual bond will immediately fail, and Graezzit will be aware it was due to an attempted falsehood.
